BASF releases new expanded polypropylene foam Neopolen product, which provides a high-quality smooth surface

BASF has expanded its product range of expanded polypropylene foam Neopolen.

Compared with existing grades, the new material Neopolen P 9235+ has improved surface properties, a 20% deeper color impression and optimized manufacturing filling performance.

Neopolen P 9235+ parts make much less frictional noise, and black foam particles are suitable for automotive parts and dunnage trays that are subject to compact stress, as well as structural and protective applications in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.

Neopolen® P 9235+ has been listed in the material data system IMDS of the automotive industry and is now available in Europe. The new standard grade will gradually replace the recognized Neopolen® P 9235 and develop into a new product series including special grades in the medium term.

Neopolen® P 9235+ provides a high-quality, smooth surface, which is an advantage for visible components such as automobile trunk liners. The test proves that the color depth is increased by 20%: the special laboratory unit simulates human color perception according to the CIE 1931 color system (CIE: French, which stands for International Lighting Commission), thereby providing objective and verifiable color results. Other applications of the new granular foam grade include automotive parts, such as bumper cores, headrests and armrests, as well as insulation for heat exchangers and heating units.

Neopolen®P 9235+ shows the mature characteristics of the Neopolen® series, which is characterized by high energy absorption, light weight, good resilience under static and dynamic loads, and basically constant energy absorption under repeated impact loads.

The new grade products are resistant to chemicals and grease, thermally insulated, and have low water absorption. Foam particles are available in packaged or bulk form.
