On the first working day of 2021, the new carbon fiber project invested by SHSH Carbon Fiber Technology Group officially started.
The project has a total investment of 5 billion yuan, and the construction content includes 38,000 tons/year of carbon fiber precursor and 22,000 tons/year of 48K large tow carbon fiber. It is planned to be completed in 2024.
The newly-built carbon fiber precursor project by SHSH is the basic raw material for the manufacture of various types of carbon fibers. The 48K large tow carbon fiber refers to the carbon fiber with more than 48,000 single filaments per carbon fiber.
The relative density of carbon fiber is less than a quarter of that of steel, but its strength is 7-9 times that of steel. It also has corrosion resistance and other characteristics. It is also called "black gold" and can be used in domestic rail transit and automobile lightweighting. And oil and gas fields.
SHSH is the first Chinese local enterprise to break through the 48K large tow carbon fiber industrialization technology. Previously, the number of domestic carbon fibers per bundle was basically between 1,000 (1K) and 12,000 (12K), which belonged to small tow carbon fibers. China's large tow carbon fiber market is mostly dependent on imports from companies such as Japan and the United States, and the supply has been in short supply for a long time.
According to industry standards, carbon fibers with a single filament number less than 24K in each carbon fiber are classified as small tow carbon fibers. Carbon fibers greater than or equal to 24K are called large tow carbon fibers.
Compared with small tow carbon fiber, the advantage of large tow carbon fiber is to realize the low-cost production of carbon fiber and break the application limitation brought by the high price of carbon fiber.
SHSH started the research and development and industrialization of carbon fiber in 2006. In 2017, the company trial-produced the first 48K large tow carbon fiber, and went through the entire process.
In 2018, China's annual demand for carbon fiber reached 31,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 32%, of which more than 70% came from imports. It is estimated that by 2025, the demand for carbon fiber in the Chinese market will exceed 50,000 tons per year, of which large tow carbon fiber will exceed 30,000 tons per year.
