Clariant and Ineos sign supply contract to help propane dehydrogenation unit (PDH) supply catalyst and heating material projects

On October 17, Clariant announced that the company signed a long-term supply contract with Ineos to supply catalysts and heating materials for Ineos' largest propane dehydrogenation unit (PDH) in Europe. Ineos' new unit will be completed in 2023, with an annual designed propylene capacity of 750,000 tons.

It is reported that Clariant will jointly promote this project with its process partner, McDermott, which has the exclusive license of CATOFIN propane dehydrogenation technology from Lummus, USA. Clariant is the exclusive developer and supplier of special catalysts and heating materials for the CATOFIN process.

Rob Ingram, CEO of Ineos Europe Group Co., Ltd., said that the choice of CATOFIN catalytic technology is based on its superior resource efficiency and process reliability, which will enable Ineos to achieve its sustainable development goals in the coming decades.

Clariant Catalysts Business Unit senior vice president and general manager Situ Hao said that CATOFIN technology and catalysts are the best solutions to the world's growing demand for specialty propylene. In this highly competitive market, the solution has significant financial and performance advantages over traditional methods. He said that the CATOFIN dehydrogenation technology has been operating stably in 17 facilities worldwide, with an annual output of more than 8 million tons. It is a very reliable process that can be used to produce olefins from light alkane feedstocks and can be used in the most suitable reactor Operating at pressure and temperature allows for maximum conversion and selectivity from propane to propylene, while reducing investment and operating costs. Clariant's heating materials enhance the performance advantages of CATOFIN technology and catalysts. This patented metal oxide material is designed to generate heat and promote dehydrogenation reactions to further increase production, save energy and reduce emissions.
