Locally developed new products pursue technological upgrades
Established in 2001, Covestro's Polymer Research and Development Center (PRDC) in Shanghai, together with its innovation centers in Leverkusen, Germany and Pittsburgh, and the United States, form a worldwide R & D network to share the latest research Results. For the construction industry, Covestro has introduced Pasquick (TM) floor coating technology. Under the premise of ensuring the environmental protection of the floor (VOC <60g / L), high performance and high productivity, it is easy to apply and has strong adaptability to different environmental conditions, making it suitable for sports floors, parking lots and commercial buildings. The application of artistic flooring has obvious advantages.
Covestro, in cooperation with Changhe Group, a leading company in the sports flooring industry in China, successfully applied this new technology in the Guangdong University of Education's Boda Education and Teaching Building. The new solution enhances the resistance of the floor to stains and scratches and the aesthetics of the surface. The product is environmentally friendly and easy to use during construction. It helps to protect the health of construction workers while ensuring construction quality and rapid restoration of services.
For the furniture industry, the locally developed easy-mixing hydrophilic polyisocyanate Bayhydur® ultra 307 has high compatibility and chemical resistance, excellent gloss and film transparency, thereby improving ease of handling and film properties. This new type of curing agent is easy to mix with the resin even without dilution, and can significantly reduce VOC content.
For the automotive industry, Covestro has launched several environmentally friendly coating solutions.
Bayhydrol® UH2888 is a locally developed aqueous aliphatic polyurethane dispersion. It can be used for air-drying or forced-drying waterborne primers and has faster water evaporation than traditional waterborne polyurethane dispersions. By shortening the pre-baking time, production efficiency can be improved and delivery time can be guaranteed to be short. It also provides excellent low temperature film formation, stable formulation and pigment compatibility, excellent water resistance and interlayer adhesion.
Bayhytherm® 3246/1 is a new water-based self-crosslinking polyurethane for the surface treatment of automotive OEM primers. It has excellent surface flatness, sag resistance and chip resistance. The coating formulated with this product is easy to adopt on the new water-based production line and has a good coating appearance.
Covestro also developed Desmodur® ultra N 3690, a locally produced low-viscosity ultra-low monomer hardener. By using new products, coatings manufacturers can improve industrial hygiene for their customers. This product has passed laboratory verification and is undergoing a joint verification process by Chinese coatings suppliers to ensure its performance in all aspects such as appearance, performance and application.
Desmodur® ultra N 3690 and Bayhydur® ultra 307 are new product lines launched by Covestro, with monomer residues of less than 0.1% and meeting high industrial hygiene and safety standards.
