DuPont officially launches carbon fiber reinforced 3D printed filaments at Formnext 2018 in Frankfurt, Germany

DuPont Transportation & Advanced Polymers is the global business unit of DowDuPont's Specialty Products Division. The company officially launched at Formnext 2018 in Frankfurt, Germany. Introduced a new 3D printed filament.

3D printing using DuPont's Zytel Specialty Nylon's "ultra-low shrinkage technology" is a new product that meets the industry's need for harder, stronger materials. DuPont said that the performance of this material is comparable to existing reinforced injection molding grade materials, but it will not affect its printability, smoothness and surface quality.

The two new products will be available in January 2019 and include glass fiber reinforced polyamide and carbon fiber reinforced polyamide. DuPont said that both grades allow users to achieve greater design freedom, lighter weight, and shorten product development cycles, enabling rapid prototyping and making parts production, tool use, and product customization easier Convenience.

Ernst Poppe, DuPont's new business development manager, said: "To keep up with these trends, our industry customers need this new type of 3D printing material, which needs to be similar to our well-known injection molding grade Formula, mechanical (performance) and chemical properties. New glass and carbon-reinforced 3D fiber materials are a new step in this direction and can help the industry move towards cost-effective, automated and mass production. "

The two new grades are:

● Zytel 3D12G30FL BK309 is a black, 30% glass fiber reinforced polyamide with thermal stability, a modulus of 4-5GPA, a heat distortion temperature of> 150 C, and resistance to most solvents, detergents, Automotive liquids and fuels.

● Zytel 3D10C20FL BK544 is a black, 20% carbon fiber reinforced polyamide, suitable for lightweight parts, with a modulus of 4-5GPA, a heat distortion temperature of> 150 C, and resistance to most solvents and detergents at room temperature , Automotive liquids and fuels.

Both products were exhibited at Formnext 2018 in Frankfurt, Germany. In order to demonstrate the quality of the materials, DuPont's partner X400 and X500 3D printers produced by RepRap, Germany, performed printing demonstrations on site.
